Merstham House, Merstham, by Tom Edwards, circa 1908
Merstham House, Surrey
I believe these photos were taken in 1908, on my Great-Grandfather's (Tom Edwards) camera. 100 glass negatives in a wooden box were discovered in a loft by my cousin and included these taken at Merstham House.
My Grandfather, Thomas Harold Edwards, went to Tettenhall College with Alan Walker, and Mr and Mrs Walker lived at Merstham Hall. I think one sister was called Rosie, and she was a friend of my Grandfather's sister Glady Edwards as she stayed with her in Tettenhall. I also think there was another brother called Hector. There is a picture of Mrs. Walker standing by her carriage, drawn by two horses; and a "Lanchester Limousine" complete with chauffeur. Mr. Walker must have been one of very few people to own such a vehicle in those days. He has a large bushy beard . Alan appears in several photos at the Edwards home in Tettenhall and the two were still in touch in the 1930s. There are many other people in the pictures and I have no idea who they are. Any information would be appreciated. The names were written on the negatives by Tom Edwards, and some are only Christian names and some given the title Miss, Mrs and Mr. Names that are mentioned - Mrs Puckle, Kuro, Miss Cook, Misses L&E Smalley, Barton, J&D, Miss Crook, Douglas, Maurice, Miss McAllister, Daisy, Miss Haye, Jeanie, Allison, Duncan, Gordon (these could be surnames of men) Christine Dick (nee Edwards), 16th March 2012. A total of 40 images. Currently displaying images 1 to 30.
